Lao Chi Five Animals

From the Snake we obtain speed and suppleness. There are no kicks or punches in the fighting form of the snake. Instead we have both soft and hard finger and palm strikes, which are delivered at great speed and penetrating accuracy.
The Crane gives us grace, self-control and concentration. There are both kicking techniques and a crane fist technique, as well as a multitude of other strikes with the use of the fingers and the back of the hands etc.; this makes the crane fighting form a very versatile system.
The Monkey gives us agility, flexibility and cunning. Once again this system has a good selection of both kicks and hand techniques, including palm strikes. It also gives emphasis to grappling, with the use of some locks as well as pushing and pulling an opponent.
From the Tiger we get strength, power and tenacity. There are some kicks within this fighting system. The kicks here are mostly delivered with a whipping motion. Most of the hand techniques are executed with the tigers claw, used in a ripping and tearing action.
Even though the Dragon is a mythical creature, it still gives us characteristics that are real. In fact, the Dragon can give us power and strength, similar to the Tiger, and grace and self-control as of the Crane. A lot of our kicking comes from the Dragon, especially from the use of the tail. We also get punches, palm strikes, clawing, grappling and arm and wrist locks from the Dragon fighting form.
